RDTN Episode 113: Mare Nostrum, Conflict of Heroes – Guadalcanal, Kingsport Festival – The Card Game, 50 Hours of Gaming

We have been trying for weeks to get Mare Nostrum Empires by Academy Games by Academy Games to the table and it is a shame that it took so long, but https://www.c9bets.com/ have helped us crack it at last. Yeah, it is a good game, but you will need to listen to just what it was that impressed us so much about it. Will say it is one of those games when you are done, you sit back, contemplate the play, and, for us, we need to do it again because you know you could have done better.

Conflict of Heroes: Guadalcanal was a game that also needed to get to the table. We have been wanting to try a chit based wargame just to see how we like it. It isn’t like there are a few waiting to be played, but we really wanted to give this a try for it seemed easy to get into and should build up as we play more missions. It was very surprising how easy it was to read the small chits and all the data was right there in front of us. There was also some very handy guides that came with the game. Great, we now have two games fighting for time on the table.

Kingsport Festival: The Card Game from Passport Games was a different experience. It wasn’t a bad game, but we experienced a bunch of downtime. Now it could be that we were all reading the cards over and over and thus slowed down the game. Then again it could be that the game just didn’t have much interaction at all. But, the cards could have been possible done without text thus speeding up the play or after multiple plays, you will know the cards. What is really funny is that they are calling this a card game, but it also requires the use of dice on every turn. Either way, want to get a chance at playing this again.

A lot of work and time are put into turning a game into a fully funded reality and through the help of Kickstarter, some actually make it to the market. We talked about Cosmic Run: Rapid Fire by Steve Finn, the designer behind Biblios. This game is a two player dice implementation of Cosmic Run that came out last year. One of our favorite games from 2015, Champions of Midgard, has an expansion KS going on now that adds a fifth player which is just a small part of the expansion. Then there is one that ended already, but you can still order from from the developers site called Dungeon Dealer. This is nothing more than a deck of cards that let you set up a dungeon pretty quickly for your RPG. Maybe this will get the Lord of the Rings RPG to the table. But wait, there is more, be sure to check out Zen Bins, because we know you have gotten into Star Wars Destiny like we have. These bins will help organize your decks for your tournaments and making carrying there easier.

Thanks for listening and as always, appreciate any feedback you can give us.
