RDTN Episode 109: Jorvik, Adrenaline, Oracle of Delphi, Clank! and the Sadlers

episode109We enter a new year by starting off pretty strong. We have four 5 Minute Initiatives and we interview the Sadler brothers about a new game they designed for Megacon Games. The game the Sadlers designed is based on the Myth Universe, but aside from having roots in the universe, it is a standalone game, so you will not need Myth to play. You can use the miniatures from Myth if you want as an added bonus, but they are not necessary. The game is a coop game and should be released mid to late summer. If you are interested, be sure to check out the Kickstarter that starts the first week in January.

One thing that I, Tony, would like to point out in the blog that might not have come through in the show or might give the wrong impression is about the game Oracle of Delphi, Marty and I are not saying it is a bad game just that it is one that out of all the Feld games, is not one we would play first. There were many items that just rubbed us wrong in this game and the fact that we played Jorvik soon after, made the conclussion even more prevalent. The game has things I really like in games. It has a modular map for adding replay ability. It has dice, it has simple objectives, and it has multiple options to help you throughout the game. The downtown or A.P. wasn’t strong with this game either. But the fact that Marty has had run away leaders and the frustration I felt while playing was large, it just left us with a bad aftertaste. But like the Geico Raccoon commercial, you really need to try this game for yourself.

As far as deck builders go, Clank! is a good one for sure, but I think I liked Tyrants of the Underdark more. However, Clank! is so easy to teach and I can see where the board, sweet bag, unique endgame, and push your luck aspect can really draw people into that game. Jorvik is a great mid to light euro that anyone will be able to catch on and be able to play. But recommend that you go through the cards with everyone before playing so they know what to expect each season and can somewhat have a strategy. Adrenaline is just fun to play and the whole aspect of dwindling points when people get killed ensures that there is no gang up on anyone. There is no meanness to this game because people just need to understand that their character is nothing more than a way for people to score victory points. And with there being no downtime or punishment for getting killed, people are never out of the game. Be sure and check it out if you get a chance.

Oh, and we pulled a Legendary Darth Vader in our Star Wars Destiny booster packs. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile.
